Here’s hoping that my next post isn’t ‘Hey guys I blew up my interference engined Volvo’.

I have successfully used multiple zip ties on the timing gears to keep them from moving out of alignment.
Also, let’s move this to cervapi. Which to you prefer? Lamb and Beef, or Beef and pork? My state is still pretty shut down so I try to bring the world to me via food. Last week I made a good Czech dish, this weekend will be Singapore, next week will be some Bosnian and Croatian food. I plan to make some avjar this weekend and let it sit for a day or two before using it.

Just paint marker a tooth on each gear and the old belt, then transfer marks to new belt, match it all up and you’re good to go. Just need to make sure you get the tension correct on the belt. Not sure if those have a hydraulic tensioner and an eccentric pulley, like the Mitsubishi motors do, seen in some Chrysler’s too, but after the covers are off and the crank pulley is off, it should be fine. Getting to that point will likely be the painful part.
Are you replacing all the pulleys and tensioner as well? Is the water pump driven by the belt as well?

Oh yeah, and when you’re all done, do a couple rotations by hand before you button it all up to make sure nothing is out of whack.

Ooh that big red decal and white paint on the rims (plastidip?) Is new. I like it! This car is really coming together.

Paint parks on old belt and cam gears and crank gear then transfer marks to new belt. Volvo belts usually dont come with marks on them

Did you successfully change the belt?

Thanks! The rims are re
painted (sanded, primered,
gloss white and clear
spray).
The decal is sprayed on as well, since the hood has completely ruined clearcoat I’ll do stupid
stuff to it,
until a full respray. It’s my design studio logo.

Thanks for the tips, my replies last week
all got kinja’d...
The belt and water pump turned out to be pretty new - we postponed the change until the next 20-30K kilometers. Partly because the new kit I ordered didn’t fit. There are a few different systems for this engine, and the last owner probably fitted a different kit... Not completely sure on that.
We did all the other servicing stuff though, new filters, fluids, rubber boots for steering and driveshafts
and general cleanup.

Oh, noice. Glad you went the thorough route for the wheels since that will hold up over time better. I like it. Have you thought about what color (s) the respray might be?

Oh by respray I just mean restoring
the hood back to the factory blue, sorry if misleading.
I currently couldn’t afford a full car
respray, or at least I don’t want to invest so much into such a tired car. It’s not completely off the table, just not planned for now... But if I did do a full respray, I’d maybe go for a gold, champaigne color? I always wanted a car in gold. Actually no, black. Bright y
ellow maybe? No idea.

I think a creamy light yellow would look good on it. But the dark blue is subtle and classy so restoring it would probably be the best from a money vs satusfaction perspective.
